Absolutely amazing, I am looking forward to this album even more than I already was. True artistry beyond the confines of a genre, I only wish I could see the live performances as he fleshes this new direction out. Percussion is top notch, also makes me stoked for the new upcoming Fluisteraars material, the lads aren't slowing down!!!

It is too early to form any solid impressions of Iskandr’s next album based solely on this track, but the sound is definitely evolving into something mellower and more introspective. What this ultimately means, we will learn in time, but I am definitely intrigued.
Favorite track: Knagend Zout.

about
Iskandr – Knagend Zout, the first single from the upcoming fourth Iskandr full-length album, marks a clear new aim for the project. Forlorn sounds and mournful vocals are enveloped by gargantuan drums and menacing firelights. The psychedelic doom folk of Knagend Zout offers a hymn about the destructive and constructive dimensions of the elements; how water both gives and destroys life, the land, and the earth.
lyrics
Knagend Zout
Zwarte tongen likken
Gulzig aan de lijn
Bijtend en smakkend
Doet elke hap weer pijn
Langzaam scheurt
Het vaste uit elkaar
En schudt de harde grens
Haar veren en haar haar
Nergens is de proef zo helder
Behalve overal
Waar parelmoer en knagend zout
Hen omlijsten na de val
Een makaber samenspel
Van pijniging en troost
Het rotsvaste verlangen
Overwoekerd door de dood
Nergens is de proef zo helder
Behalve overal
Waar parelmoer en knagend zout
Hen omlijsten na de val

The guitarist strums out big, chiming chords like a shoegaze band from hell. The drummer, hoping to remind him that this is a metal band, pummels away at his kit. The singer, sounding like she’s stuck in a watery cave thousands of feet below them, lets loose tortured shrieks that seem completely unmoored rhythmically from what the other two are doing. Then there’s a trumpet! Truly excellent stuff. Zachary Gillan
Jordan Vauvert
